Jan Kabatoff

For the past few years Jan Kabatoff has been exploring the nature of reflections on water, as part of her ongoing fascination with glacial ice, water and the ephemeral nature of reflections. Her recent oil paintings entitled “Reflection Series” emulate the reflection on water as a source of contemplation and self-discovery. “Typically, reflections call into question the notion of water as a mirror of the ‘self’, and have been associated with the feminine and the fundamental concepts of selfhood and identity. Still water as a source of contemplation invites us to immerse ourselves in its ephemeral nature. I hope my paintings serve as a conduit into that stillness”.
